We live in a state where disasters are commonplace,
and we have a responsibility and duty to teach
our children the skills necessary to help themselves
and those around them when an emergency or natural
disaster strikes. In collaboration with the California
Department of Education, California
Professional Firefighters, the Governor's Office
of Emergency Services, the California Service
Corps and many other important organizations,
Team SAFE-T, together with the Red Cross and its Masters of Disaster initiative, created an age-appropriate program
with integrated lesson plans, discussion topics,
activities and take-home materials all focused
on delivering skills needed to respond to difficult
situations. This website has been designed for
schools to sign on, register and search for materials
needed for grades K-12.
Each grade-specific set of materials includes
five 45-minute lessons to be taught over five
days during the statewide School Safety Month.
During Team SAFE-T week, families will be invited
to participate in take-home activities and attend
an assembly where Emergency Responders will address
how to create a family emergency plan and improve
preparedness skills.
“Team SAFE-T is an important
and innovative program that will empower our children
and their families by providing the knowledge and
skills needed to effectively respond in various emergency
situations. Importantly, Team SAFE-T will provide
our schools the tools they need to comply with state
mandates for emergency instruction, and it will pave
the way to a safer and more prepared California. I
urge educators to incorporate Team SAFE-T’s
teaching materials into schools during School Safety
Month, particularly Team SAFE-T week from October
3-7.”
