Not Many Things You Learn In School Can Save A Life…Team SAFE-T Can!

Team SAFE-T Wants To Help Make Safety A Priority In Your School

Program Overview
Developed in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Team SAFE-T (School and Family Emergency Training) is an alliance of public and private organizations organized by a group of concerned citizens in Los Angeles, California who joined together to increase education and awareness in response to various natural and man-made emergencies/disasters throughout California.  The Team SAFE-T Partnership is dedicated to serving the citizens of California by providing a free, fully integrated, health, safety and character curriculum along with comprehensive family support materials accessible in seven languages. Administered through Californian's schools, it reaches students and families through an annualized standards-based curriculum and support materials developed to give easy-to-understand, age appropriate instruction. Greatly supported by Masters of Disaster from the American Red Cross and additional resources from the American Academy of Pediatrics, FEMA for Kids and the U.S. Geological Survey, Team SAFE-T teach age-appropriate public health and safety education to students in grades K-12. The program includes lessons on school culture, anti-violence, attendance, all-hazard preparedness, character, and first-aid and is the key educational component of “Be Smart, Be Responsible, Be Prepared, Be Ready!,” the comprehensive disaster preparedness campaign for California.

Making A Huge Impact –

Team SAFE-T Works!
Since its launch in October 2005, Team SAFE-T has made a huge impact. Schools from across California successfully pilot-tested the first-of-a-kind interactive classroom materials and thousands of school children have been given the opportunity to receive safety, preparedness and citizenship training along with valuable tools to share with their families. And the excitement has just begun!

To date, Team SAFE-T has a network of hundreds of California school districts who use elements of the program. Additionally, school administrators all across the state depend on TEAM SAFE-T to assist them in changing the culture of safety on their school campus.

Team SAFE-T has even received inquiries from interested parties in dozens of other states and even abroad – most notably a personal call from the vice president of New Zealand!

Working Together – Coalition Partners
With an unwavering commitment to the school children of California, the founders of Team SAFE-T brought this important program to fruition using seed money from the SBC Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education, in addition to other public and private donations.

Team SAFE-T's is available in English and Spanish, provides free course materials for school administrators and teachers to download classroom materials and safety support materials for families and communities. This Web site has made the unique all-hazards instructional materials easily available to 9,000 California schools at no cost! More than 500 California schools log-on to www.TeamSAFE-T.org to download materials during the October kickoff month alone.
